a no-nonsense guide to meditation and mindfulness

where would you like to go?

why bother with this?

Hi, I’m Tom, a meditation and mindfulness teacher in Braunton. I came across meditation and mindfulness whilst struggling to cope with severe anxiety, depression, addiction, and loneliness. I learned how to notice anxious thoughts without spiralling into despair, to feel sadness without becoming overwhelmed by it, and to experience cravings without driving to the nearest pizza place and bingeing in the car.

what is mindfulness?

Imagine sitting in the middle of a roundabout, simply watching the traffic as it comes and goes. Sometimes it’s frantic, sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes, you go out into the road, either chasing after something you do like, or trying to get rid of something you don’t like; this results in chaos - shouting, blaring horns, and a much more stressful situation.

Mindfulness is about stepping back and observing the traffic, rather than getting swept up in it. It's about noticing things, welcoming them, and allowing them to come and go in their own time.

what is meditation?

You don’t have to wear a robe, you don’t have to sit cross-legged on the floor, you don’t have to be religious or spiritual, and you don’t have to practise for hours every day. The meditation style I practise and teach can be done by anyone.
